Jose Alfaro (he/him)

Jose has over 15 years of experience in award-winning filmmaking that ranges from documentaries to narrative shorts. With a B.A. in TV & Radio Broadcasting from San Francisco State University, he has handled all aspects of filmmaking including producing, directing, cinematography, and editing. Jose is also grateful to have served as an instructor, mentor, and role model for youth and young adults in a series of filmmaking workshops.

For the Superbowl 50 Host Committee in 2015, Jose helped produce 50 videos in 50 weeks which highlighted non-profits around the Bay Area. More recently, Jose was the cinematographer for "Black in the Bay," a music video celebrating Black History Month for the Golden State Warriors. Under Alfaro Productions, Jose has produced award-winning documentaries including "El Canto del Colibri" (2015), distributed by Frameline, streaming on Amazon, and seen on PBS.


Jose’s specialized expertise is the intersection between technology and video. During his 10+ years at BAYCAT Studio, Jose was not only the lead cinematographer and editor, he managed all the technology needs for the organization. Jose handled lab computer purchases, maintained video production equipment, sourced production rentals, overhauled the IT infrastructure for 10Gbit connectivity, and more. Jose has trained to offer responsive, proactive, and secure IT support. He currently holds a Google IT Support Professional Certificate (2022).


Jose, a native of El Salvador, immigrated to the Bay Area when he was 10 years old. Jose is fluent in Spanish, is a Bayview resident, and a proud new dad.
