Jose Alfaro (he/him)
Cinematographer/Producer/Editor
Jose has over 15 years of experience in award-winning filmmaking that ranges from documentaries to narrative shorts. With a B.A. in TV & Radio Broadcasting from San Francisco State University, he has handled all aspects of filmmaking including producing, directing, cinematography, and editing. Jose is also grateful to have served as an instructor, mentor, and role model for youth and young adults in a series of filmmaking workshops during his time at BAYCAT.
For the Superbowl 50 Host Committee in 2015, Jose helped produce 50 videos in 50 weeks which highlighted non-profits around the Bay Area. Jose was the cinematographer for "Black in the Bay," a music video celebrating Black History Month for the Golden State Warriors. Under Alfaro Productions, Jose produced and filmed the award-winning documentary "El Canto del Colibri" (2015), distributed by Frameline, and seen on PBS.
More recently Jose had the opportunity to travel back to his homeland of El Salvador to help shoot and edit "Indigo Azul" a project by San Francisco based, Salvadoran Latinx multidisciplinary artist Jessica Recinos.
Jose, a native of El Salvador, immigrated to the Bay Area when he was 10 years old. He is fluent in Spanish, loves playing soccer and is a proud parent.
